Lets Talk about Saving the Environment
Monday, November 14, 2005

14 Nov 2005 (Mon)

I am religiously reading Straits Times everyday. Today a little later. In the night. But nevertheless, this little article caught my eyes.

The title of the blog is the headlines. And guess wad? Expect the least expected reply in the lines to follow.

Dont bother me,
its the job for Captain Planet.

I was first amused as I was fondly reminded of my childhood hero. The song that goes

Earth, Fire, Wind Water Heart. When the powers combine
I AM CAPTAIN PLANET~

But hello reality, there is no Captain Planet. I guess this is the reason for our global warming and increased greenhouse effect. Since like Primary school to sec to even JC, the last chapter would be Me And My Environment. Yes, we memorize and recite them day and night. But how many of us practice what we preach?

This article talks about how the writer of the article puts the idea of saving earth in the back of the mind as the person ordered packets and packets of food packed in Styrofoam boxes, day in and out. I am guilty as well of such an act.

I was especially disheartened to see that this big big headlines, besides 2 other articles published, is the Biggest. Tragic. The very article which proclaimed widely that its not our biz is the featured one.
(did I mention this article is written by a third year communication studies student from NTU)

- I tink it is safe to write this here, this is taken right from the papers, nothing added -

Sad to say the truth is such.

That reminds me of one of the chapter from my Architecture notes. How architects now have been tasked with the job of designing building and objects that will be friendly to the environment. In this case, Architects are the Captain Planet.

I tink government and politicians can make a difference. Actually, they are the very catalyst. MM urged Singaporeans to do their bit to conserve the environment, thus resulting in this article being published. So really, gov do a big part.
(Touch my heart, I am grateful at least there is somebody to start the ball rolling)

Actually, if all play a part, we can all be Captain Planet.

Use less paper. Have no Exams! No notes to study! No notes to Print. Less trees will be chopped down to make paper for us students. Therefore, I am in view that we should say No to Exams. (Whose with me? keke)

Back to studies. Yar . . .
