Saw this posted on a local forum and got really pissed.

Hi my first post here, actually never thought of posting but though I tried hard I cannot find relevant thread that can shed some lights about the real estate industry in Singapore, I refer to job in particular
I now in the real estate course, although it is considered as "professional degree" but from what I see is that the prospect for a real estate graduate is bleak, eg property executive/managers prefer business graduate, facilities managers prefer engineering graduate sometimes. The best option or seems to be the only one is valuer, when it requires a real estate degree. Should I count it as a blessing! But appears to me that to be a successful valuer require many years of experience, and there are no much demands for a valuer. And when I look at valuer, it only applies to property related assets, business degree can valuate many others more.
Sounds a bit pessimistic, but reviewing the current economic status and witnessing the low employment and unemployment, it makes me wonder did I make the right choice in choosing it as my course. I still in my first year, and not doing well, sighs, it adds more stress to me thinking whether will it be tough when it is my time to graduate and look for job and compete with many other brighter students around me.
Any experts or professional in this industry can share his/her view? I would really be interested to know what are the prospects like, others than agent?
not offend, and I seriously admired those that can earn big bucks through the property transaction, but since I heard enough about being an agent I would hope to hear more about alternatives.

I see this post in the forum n got really agitated that I jus signed up a new acct in that forum jus to reply him. Like wtf!!! Wads with that inverted comas for the professional degree. HELLO we ARE professional degree. Not so-called professional degree ok!
Yr 1 only and dunno anyting go ard sayin this. Make til everyone who dunno the course tink that our degree really like sai and do only agent work lah. Hate this kinda ppl. Prob dun pay attention in class so dunno wads gg on. Hate him hate him hate him!
Though I m as clueless as he is as to wad job is available specifically when I was in yr 1, bt I do noe wad are the gov agencies who employ real estate grads. He dun even noel ah. And go ard askin ppl. Y dun he go ask our prof and stop gg ard makin it lik our degree is like dead end. If he so dun like den dun join us. Though I oso joined unwillingly, I already start to love the course after 1 yr. and is happily graduated. That phrase prospect for real estate graduates are bleak. Its not the degree bt the person bah. Degree is but a stepping stone but hw u sell urself is wad decides if ur future is bleak ornot.
The way he say til like Bsc Real Estate (hons) grad le only gt agent job to do really show his shallow knowledge on wad he is studying. Totally ignorant. We are indeed qualified agent, and yes we can do agent job. But liew, there are so many other paths lah and he is speakin like those ppl on the street who dunno bout the course itself.
Ppl on the street dunno I dun blame them but he is an undergrad here in the sch and he speak likdat. Jus to list a few very easily, urban planner, real estate researcher, investment manager for REITs, MA, lease manager, real estate developer. So many liaoz, not to mention those I cant list out wad job position, but gov agencies like HDB, IRAS, URA all took in our graduates too lah. Pte company like JLL, Far East, capitaland, keppeland, SC Global, all these are real estate companies that take our graduates lah.Not to mention the numerous pte companies, like the one I m in.
Will there b a day when we live on open space and work in open space? We travel on road, we work in office and stay in buildings. All these need ppl to develop, manage, maintain.
Wad bleak? Wtf he know noting, dun ask our professor, and go out there post on forum and ask til like our degree really useless….later outside ppl really tink our course is useless how?
